Rev. Paul F. DeVires, 71, of Crete, Illinois, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and Chaplain with Rest Haven Christian Services, passed away at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, on Saturday, July 1, 2000. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 5, 2000, 2-9 p.m., at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 East 162nd Street (Illinois Route 6/159th Street), South Holland, Illinois. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 10 a.m., at Thorncreek Reformed Church, 1875 East 170th Street, South Holland, officiated by the Rev. Michael Pitsenberger. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park, Monee, Illinois. Memorials are appreciated to Rest Haven Christian Services, 16250 Prince Drive, South Holland, IL 60473, or for cancer research at Johns Hopkins University, c/o Dr. Charles Yeo, 600 North Wolfe Street, Blalock Building, Room 606, Baltimore, MD 21205. I had the honor of working with Rev. DeVries for 8 years. I will think of him often when I see something colorful, hear a "corny" joke, or have a moment at work when I would think that he should walk in the door with his smiling face. I know people with a kind heart. His kind heart was apparent when he talked with you. I will never forget the look on his face when he talked about his wife, daughters, sons-in-law or grandchildren.
