Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Fr. David Muñoz, OMI went home to God on October 5, peacefully leaving this earth and undoubtedly joyfully welcomed into paradise.  God asked David to serve Him as a priest, and David faithfully answered that call, entering into Oblate formation, leading to his profession of vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on August 1, 2005, and his ordination to the priesthood on May 22, 2010.  His adventures as an Oblate took him to formation experiences in Rome and San Antonio; to parish ministry assignments in Buffalo, New York; Laredo, Texas; and San Antonio, Texas.  God blessed David with a brilliant intellect and a profound pastoral heart.  These and his many other abilities enabled David to touch the lives of thousands in his ministry assignments.  His love for his Oblate Congregation was articulately and beautifully expressed in the final ministry assignment he held as Director of the Oblate Charismatic Family of the United States Province.  His affection for the Founder of the Oblates, St. Eugene DeMazenod was expressed in the many academic and pastoral experiences he provided to the Oblates and laity.  With love and passion David reached out to hundreds of lay men and women who are part of the Oblate Charismatic Family. David’s academic prowess enabled him to receive a Doctorate in Theology from Oblate School of Theology.  It is, however, his deep love for God’s poor and his love for Jesus made manifest through his priesthood that will forever shine forth in our hearts and minds.

David had a firm foundation of faith upon which to build his life of service and ministry.  He was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Hollywood, Florida.  He is survived by his parents, Felix and Ruth Muñoz, and his sister Damaris, as well many family members.  David’s parents and family passed on to him a strong Catholic faith, setting the stage for his future life of service and ministry.

David’s family, and his Oblate family, are grateful for your prayers.  Although David returns home to God sooner than any of us would have hoped for, we know that he is with God, and St. Eugene, and interceding for us.

All of us who loved David are forever grateful to the oncology and neurological teams who provided good care for him, as well as the hospice care providers.  Also, to the angels who work at the Oblate Madonna Residence, we are grateful to you and lift each of you up in our prayers.

Not sure what to say?

A good guy, a great priest.

Fr. David and I were novices together in Godfrey. I was able to visit with him again in Buffalo, NY while he was serving at Holy Angels.
Always a man of faith, humor, and order.
I offered Mass for him this morning.
May the Lord grant him eternal rest.

Offering sincere condolences to family, friends and Oblate brothers of David: I have memories of Fr. David as an attentive, caring minister and one with the people at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Laredo and at San Juan de los Lagos in San Antonio. We find comfort in the assurance that he abides in the loving embrace of God’s love and peace.

Father David was an inspiration to all who knew him. His intellect and passion for the Oblate Charismatic Family made all of us feel like we were part of this extended family of friends. I was personally moved when he held his last meeting by video conference and despite his physical discomfort was moved by the Holy Spirit with very detailed answers to my questions. His knowledge and ability to express himself were truly inspiring and remarkable. I also enjoyed our conversations about...

Father David Muñoz was such a gifted person. He had great homilies and a pastoral heart. I looked forward to his homilies both at the Shrine Our Lady of San Juan and Our Lady of the Lake Convent where he celebrated Mass as well. My condolences and prayers to the OMI's and to his family. May Fr. David now enjoy his eternal reward. Faithful servant of God, to God's people and his community. Sister Esther M. Guerrero, MCDP

My deepest condolences to Father David's family, friends and his Oblate brothers. He was our Priest at San Juan De Los Lagos Church in San Antonio and will be missed, RIP

My deepest condolences to Father David's family, friends and his Oblate brothers. I happened to attend a couple of training sessions with Father David for the Oblate Grotto. Father David was so knowledgeable, and he truly enjoyed sharing his knowledge with us. He made the learning experience very welcoming and gave us lay people a way to become closer to our faith with a true purpose. I am truly thankful and humbled that I was able to be a part of something so special. May the eternal...
