Not sure what to say?

Farewell to a most kind and respected teacher, mentor, and friend. Father John was our English teacher at Assumption for all 4 years for the class of '62. I had occasion to advise Father John that the first (and possibly only) "A" I ever received in college was in an English Comp course. That gave him a big smile !!!!! We'll all miss you Father John, and may God bless you and hold you in the palm of His hand.

My dear Padre John Manahan May u Rest In Peace ! I will miss u and that great beautiful smile!

Such a kind and gentle soul. He showed us the human side of priesthood during his time at Nolan Catholic in the 70's. Fr. Manny was an excellent servant to the faith!

I'm going to miss you Father Manahan. Your scarcasim and wit are like no other. It was an absolute pleasure knowing you.

Fr Jack (as our family knew him) is a first cousin of my Mum. I met him many years ago in Ireland He was such a lovely kind & gentle man & he made a great impression on me as a teenager. Later on, we were in contact by email. My Mum died last November & God willing, they are together again. May they all Rest in Peace

Dearest Fr. Man, you were my teacher and friend. I'm so glad we kept in touch. You kindly wrote reviews for a couple of my books and we last spoke on New Years Ever 2019. You made the world a better place. Love Always, Jewel (Julie -Radykowski- Stephens Nolan 1974)

The Holy Rosary Community was priviledged to have Father John at our church he was ahead of his time, he tried to educate community spiritually, politically and he never sugar coated his Sunday Lectures he meant well in stimulating or thought processes in regards to church and current events. He was a great bilingual teacher an asset to Holy Rosary as he also made great measures to try to include everyone with our traditions. It was a privilege to have been under his spiritual leadership.

Fr. John was my English teacher and Homeroom moderator at Assumption High School for the class of ‘63. He could be fearsome when needing to straighten out and control very active teenagers, but he could also be a calm and quite counselor when someone need that most.
While he was an excellent teacher, he was so much more for a much longer time in my life. I am thankful that we became good friends as we grew older and, prior to this last year to eighteen months, were able to regularly...

Then Brother John Manahan was my high school English teacher at Assumption High School in East St. Louis; my speech coach for years and an important part of my life. When my father died while I was in high school he made a special effort to fill the hole in my life as a caring, patient mentor. Reflecting on this much later in life, I came to realize how much he had done for me. After a school reunion several years ago we went out to breakfast and I was able to thank him face to face for his...
