It is with great sadness that the family of Reverend Kenneth J. Calder of Bay Ridge, N.Y announce his entrance into eternal rest on Thursday, July 20, 2023. He was 91 years old.
Beloved son of the late Joseph Calder and Estelle Dolan of Richmond Hill, N.Y, Father Calder was born on August 13, 1931. Loving brother to the late Joseph Calder, Gerald Calder, and Eileen Sturges, Father Calder was a reserved, caring person with a strong devotion to God and the Catholic Church. He was ordained on May 28, 1960 at the age of 29 by the diocese of Brooklyn.
Father Calder served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parish of American Martyrs (Bayside). He also served as Parochial Vicar of the Parishes of Our Lady of Angels (Brooklyn), Saints Joachim and Anne (Queens Village), Mary Queen of Heaven (Brooklyn), and Saint Patrick (Brooklyn).
Humble, gentle, kind, patient, comforting and soft spoken are just a few of the many words used to describe Father Calder’s loving nature. He led a truly exemplary life as a missionary of the lord. After retiring as a priest of 63 years, he continued to counsel people due to his utmost dedication to the faithful parishioners of Our Lady of Angels.
Father Kenneth Calder is survived by his extended family at Our Lady of Angels and his many caring nieces and nephews who adored him. He was loved and will be immensely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

About a week ago, Fr. Calder came to my mind. I wondered if he was still at Our Lady of Angels in Bay Ridge because although we had moved to St Anselm's parish, we always attended OLA supporting them with our 'just visiting' envelopes We left New York back in 2013 and currently reside in Myrtle Beach, SC Just the other day, my son called to tell us Fr. Calder had passed. It was almost as if I got a last message from him. He actually passed on my father-in-law's birthday. Fr. Calder...

To the family of Fr. Calder, I knew Fr. Calder when he was a young priest at St. Patrick's. He was good friends with Fr. Dunn. My grandmother Mary Langelotti worked at St. Pats rectory and took care of Fr. Calder and Fr. Dunn as if they were her own sons. Fr, Calder and Fr. Dunn had dinner at my house many times. He loved spaghetti and meatballs. They were both very fine priests and very kind. When my grandmother died in 1973 Fr. Calder and Fr. Dunn were 2 of 12 priests that officiated at my...

Uncle Ken in his late 20's
Father Calder was my uncle and godfather. This picture is of him when he was in his late 20's, probably before he was ordained. He was a caring, soft-spoken person who took an interest in all of his 26 nieces and nephews; he will be remembered fondly by all of us.

Father Calder thank you for being so generous and kind throughout the years. I will never forget how his teachings influenced me to always pray and it helped me to graduate recently from Ramapo College. I also want to thank you for talking with my grandma after every service and being there when she was called home to God. I was so blessed to have known an amazing and hard working devoted Priest at Our Lady of Angels, even during my time as one of the former Children’s choir members.
