Brandon's Mortuary, Inc. - Malvern Obituary

The legacy of Rev. Larry Lee McDaniel began when he was born May 7, 1948, at 8:45 A.M., to Rev. Herbert and Lillie C. Collier McDaniel in Forrest City, AR, at Dr. Roy’s Hospital. Larry was raised in St. Francis and Crittenden Counties. He attended school at Scott Bond Elementary School in Clark Corner, AR., and Derossett Elementary School in Widener, AR. He attended Lincoln Jr. and Sr. High School in Forrest City AR. Larry graduated from Dunbar High School in Crittenden County in Earle, AR in 1966. Larry wrote the class song and motto and created the class project. There was and still is a tight bond between him and his classmates. They are all like family. He confessed a hope in Christ on August 26, 1960, and had a love for singing. Larry was drafted in the United States Army on April 11, 1968. He served basic training in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Advance Individual training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as a heavy equipment operator and combat engineer. He was transferred from there to Bamberg, Germany. CO. A 82nd Engineer Bn., where he served for 18 months and was honorably discharged on March 22, 1970, after a 5-ton truck parked on his abdomen during a training endeavor. After his discharge he moved to Hot Springs, AR, He worked at Weyerhaeuser, Featherlite, Alliance Rubber, Union Carbide and Ouachita Job Corp where he retired after 20 years in 2007. Larry met Carolyn Scott, the love of his life, on August 1974 after registering at Garland County Community College. On June 12, 1976, they were united in matrimony. He went to work at Ouachita Job Corp in Royal, AR, in May of 1983. With great dedication and love for his Country, he joined the National Guard in 1977 as a communication specialist as well as a cook. He served for 20 years and retired with a total of 22 years.

Rev. McDaniel confessed his calling to the ministry on Thanksgiving Day in 1990. He was called to pastor St. Matthew #3 in Blackwell, AR, in 1997 where he pastored for 10 years. Following that Rev. Mac. was assistant pastor at Greater Ebenezer MBC for 4 years and later became interim pastor for 1 year. He then united with Gethsemane MBC in 2021, where he served as an Associate Minister and Chairman of the Brotherhood and a Pastor’s Aide member. He also was a dedicated Bible scholar and enjoyed working on the battlefield for the Lord in any capacity. After his health began to fail, the love of his life became his primary caregiver. He was adamant about how much he loved his wife and could not do without her.

Rev. McDaniel was also a member of Langston Masonic Lodge #84 and the American Legion Post 2020 of Hot Springs, AR.

When he wasn’t off into studying GOD’S Word, and spending quality time with his family you could find him watching western cowboy movies and drinking coffee. Rev. Mac. was also a horticulture, always buying tons of beautiful flowers to plant. He had an admiration for antique cars and was always doing something to his 1962 Ford Falcon and had the upmost love for his children, grandchildren and family. Always teaching them to be respectful and kind to all adults and to treat others the way that they want to be treated. Rev. Mac also was very poetic; he often wrote love poems to his wife, as well as an author. He wrote a children’s book entitled “Umba, a little African Boy”, however it was never officially published. Many will remember Rev. Mac as a Good Samaritan who would often go out of his way to help someone in need.

Rev. Mac was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, brothers: Obbie and John Harris, HD and Rev. George Solomon McDaniel. Sisters: Margaret Seawood, Lillie Johnson, and

Carlene Oliver. I met Larry in 9th grade he was always friendly kind and serious at the same time we graduated in 1966, and some forty two years later Larry and a few other classmates decided to do a class reunion, Larry was president, so the calls went out, so we had our first class reunion 42yr later in 2007 in hot springs Arkansas guess Who was the hoist? Afterwards Larry suggested we do a class reunion every two years there after, and we have.so on November 7th in my imaginary,Larry saying for I am now...

We were “real 1st cousins”, from the time as kids when he tried his best to teach me how to “turn a somersault”, until just recently when he had to comforted me on a great loss. I will miss him more then I realized. Rest assured his memory will live on in the hearts of many. Rest now, Dear Friend.

A beautiful soul God gave to some many to enjoy. Thank you, Sis. Carolyn for sharing your husband with the community. God knows your pain, as you celebrate his homegoing, but God needed him more!
