BOWMAN WALKERTOWN - Rex Arron Bowman Oct. 23, 1953 - Feb. 4, 2012 Mr. Rex Arron Bowman transitioned from labor to reward on February 4, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Bowman was born October 23, 1953 in Forsyth County, the youngest of nine children to the late James Ernest Bowman and Luetta France Bowman. He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School and Winston-Salem State University with a BA degree in Business Administration. He was a life-long learner in the field of hospitality management, a very challenging field that requires the ability to anticipate and meet a wide variety of people and logistical needs. His level of commitment to exemplary work was demonstrated during his 25 years as an events planner, Associate Director, and Director for the Benton Convention Center until his retirement from the City of Winston-Salem in 2004. He continued working in this field with the Noble Investments/Twin City Quarter enterprise from 2004 until failing health forced him to retire summer 2011. "Mentor" and "Friend" is a reputation that has to be personally earned; you are neither of these until others say you are. Many of the lives he touched over his 58 years on this earth are testimonials to his earning those titles. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; his two elder brothers, James Bowman and William Monroe Bowman (Constance Patricia); and one niece, Tanya Evette Bowman. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and soul mate, Betty Walker Bowman; two sisters, Mildred Bowman of W-S, NC and Mary Pauline Williams (Thurmond) of Greensboro, NC; the niece who was raised as his sister, Vicki Gray of W-S, NC; four brothers, Raleigh Bowman (Blanche) of Walnut Cove, NC, Nathaniel Bowman (Carolyn) and Walter Bowman of W-S, NC and Bobby Bowman of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Annie Almeda Bowman; five nieces, Dalnese Michelle Bowman, Karen Michelle Waiter, and Tatum Brimmer of W-S, NC, Cynthia White(Freddie) of Walnut Cove, NC, and LaTanya Bowman, High Point, NC; nephews, William Bowman II, Kelvin Mitchell, and Christopher Bowman of W-S, NC, and Michael Bowman of Charlotte, NC; and a host sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A Service of Triumph will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, February 10, 2012 at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church, 630 Patterson Ave., W-S, NC 27101 with Reverend Dr. Seth O. Lartey presiding, where Rex was a faithful member serving on boards, committees, and on the Men's Chorus. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Walkertown, NC. The family visitation hour with tributes will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday, at the Church. Online condolences can be made at www.russellfuneralservice.com (RUSSELL

Not sure what to say?

I meet Rex at Winston Salem State University. Rex had a smile that would lift your day. I hadn't seen Rex in a while, however, hearing that he had past truely effected my day. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and family.

My deepest sympathy to the Bowman family. I was privileged to have known Rex since days at WSSU. He was a fine gentleman and a talented professional. He will be missed.

To the family of Arron as I knew him at East Forsyth, I see he still had the same sweet smile he always had, not much has changed since his high school photo, the hair a bit shorter. It is a shame we all lose touch as we grow up. I know he will be missed by many and I am glad to have known him back then. Hope the good memories soften the pain in your hearts with time.

Formerly from Walkertown,
