Aulds Funeral Home - Archer City Obituary

Rexena Pearl Thompson Scales, age 88, of Electra passed away March 30, 2015 in Wichita Falls.

Rexena was born March 16, 1927 in Corsicana, Texas to the late Rex James Thompson and Jeannetta Frances Williams Thompson.
She grew up in the Electra area and graduated from Electra High School in 1945. After graduation, she was employed by the Electra Telephone Company as a telephone operator and retired as the company's bookkeeper in 1965 when she began her family. Her voice was the recording that everyone heard when they received a non-working phone number or when service was temporarily interrupted.

Rexena and Johnny T. Scales were married August 5, 1959 in Electra. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1995. Together, they operated the family farm for over 35 years. She loved living on her hill out in the country.

As a young woman, she was a member of the Church of God in Electra and joined the First Assembly of God after marrying. She was very active in the church serving at times as a school teacher, choir director, and working with youth. She had a wonderful voice and loved to sing. A trio consisting of Rexena, her sister LaRue and family friend Doris Harwell, formed a musical trio that would perform at numerous church assemblies and even on the local radio station. She was also well known as a wonderful cook, especially for her enchiladas and peach cobbler.

Survivors include her son, Jon B. Scales and his wife, Stephanie of Wichita Falls; her daughter, Julie R. Scales of Wichita Falls; two sisters, LaRue Kennedy of Vernon, and LaVelle Boudreaux of Bowie, two brothers, R.J. Thompson of Electra and Joe Thompson of Granbury; six grandchildren, James, Joseph, Kyla, Christian, Zach and Perry; numerous nieces and nephews and many special family friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the First Assembly of God of Electra with Rev. Darwin Stroud, Pastor of the First Assembly of God, and Dr. Lynwood Givens officiating. Interment will follow in the New Electra Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
