Howe-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Taylor Obituary

Rey Nacxitl Balmaceda III passed away on December 12th, 2023 at the young age of 26.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald and June Dodge, whom he loved and missed very much.

Beloved son of Dawn Dodge and Rey Balmaceda Jr. (Angela).

Cherished grandson of Rey Sr & Elba Balmaceda,

Adored brother of Michael, and Areyana Balmaceda and Collin Dodge.

Dear nephew of Walleska Balmaceda (Ben), Shelly McManamon (Tim) and Sherry Lewis (Brian).

He is survived by many cousins and family members.

Rey was incredibly kind and selfless. He had a gentle soul that never angered. His intelligence was unsurpassed and evident from birth. As a child we knew he was destined for something great. His accomplishments would have been endless had he had more time on this earth. He always put his family first and cherished his siblings. He was a wonderful big brother, loving son, grandson and nephew.

He was a great cook and created Chef caliber meals for the people he loved, a trait he perfected, but inherited from his “Mamita” and Dad. He loved his “Mamita’s” cooking.

He liked computer gaming, classical music, and playing chess. He really enjoyed playing against his “Papa” in chess tournaments and even made him a 2nd place trophy when Rey became the tournament champ. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings, especially his youngest brother Collin.

He had just completed his bachelors degree in computer science with top honors this December at Eastern Michigan University just days before his passing.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Not sure what to say?

Rey was the sweetest, most gentle individual I have ever had as a friend. I used to call him a “teddybear”. He was always so kind and willing to do anything he could to help out his friends. He was a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen growing up. He was witty, smart and quirky in his humor and once he started laughing, it was contagious. Although we may not have spoken in a few years, I always wondered about him and hoped he was doing well. I’ve known Rey since we were about 5 years old...

Single Tree

Rey was always the best person to be talking to at the end of the night. Whether around a bonfire, on a midnight stroll, or in whispers when everyone else was sleeping, you would never leave the conversation thinking anything other than that Rey had a funny, sharp, forceful and generous mind. He will be missed.

Words cannot express the depth of my sorrow for your loss. I am thinking of you and your family during this heartbreaking time.

Rey was undeniably kind, generous, gentle, and brilliant. I've known him since we were 5 or 6 years old, from kindergarten onward. Somehow it has been years now since we last hung out together, but we kept in touch, I could always count on that special text from Rey coming through a few times a year. It has been a privilege to know Rey. I can't believe I don't get to speak with him ever again. I'll miss him forever.
To Dawn and Michael, and the rest of the family, I'm so sorry for your...

Angela - I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I went to grade school with Rey, from kindergarten to eighth grade. I remember him as being witty, kind, and smart. He made us all laugh, he had a gentle soul, and a big heart.
