Mrs. Rhoda Devet Brown Goodman, 69, of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.
The Celebration Mass of Christian Burial Service for Mrs. Goodman will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Mercy Funeral Home Chapel, located at 1395 Gladys Street in Beaumont, Texas. The public viewing for Mrs. Goodman will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., rosary to be recited at 9:15 a.m. at Mercy Funeral Home Chapel, with the practice of social distancing and Facial Masks are required. Under the direction of Mercy Funeral Home.

Obituary
Rhoda Devet Goodman blessed the world with her presence on August 6, 1953. She was a treasure born to William “Boy” Brown and Luvenia Brown in Savannah, Georgia. She carried the love of Christ and was baptized at St. Anthony’s Church in Savannah. She was one of four siblings that grew up in Beaumont, Texas. Rhoda was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church for many years. Rhoda was the child that stood up for her siblings and cared for other children that lived in the Neches Park Homes aka “The Projects”.
While in grade school, Rhoda played tennis and the piano. Rhoda graduated from Hebert High School (Panthers) in 1972 and later graduated from Lamar University with an associate degree in Early Child Care Development.
Post-graduation, she landed her first job at Saint Elizabeth Hospital as a Nurse Assistant. The opportunity arose and Rhoda made the decision to work at the Downtown YMCA as a the Director of Memberships for 17 years. Rhoda’s last career was at Mark W. Stiles Unit and Larry Gist State Jail where she served as a Human Resource Clerk, Unit Supply and Personnel Clerk for 19 years before retiring in 2016.
Rhoda loved to manicure her yard and shared many of her gardening tips and gave flowers and plants to family and friends alike.
Rhoda entered into eternal rest at 3:30 pm on February 11, 2023 at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, William “Boy” Brown and her grandmother, Rosa Roberts. She leaves to cherish her memories he mother, Luvenia Brown; sister, Rosalyn Brown and brothers, Virgil “Bay” Brown and Vincent Brown; sons, Anthony Collins and Aaron Matthews (Tangela); grandchildren Amarion Matthews, Breannah Matthews, Azaria Jackson, Ayani DuBose and Frederick DuBose; great granddaughter, Aniah Jackson; and host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Memories will also be cherished by her devoted and loving friend Wayne “G” Goodman.
