Age 82
Rhona BEARE passed away on February 20, 2018 at the age of 82. Funeral Home Services for Rhona are being provided by Bristol Memorial Woodlands Ltd (Alveston). The obituary was featured in The Times on March 7, 2018.
Dr. Beare was one of the earliest (post-Lord of the Rings), and among the most astute and significant, correspondents with J.R.R. Tolkien. Those who have read Tolkiens letters attentively, those who enjoy and study Tolkiens own observations and meditations on Middle-earth, and students of Tolkiens invented languages, will all remember her, be in her debt, and mourn her passing.

Very sad to hear this. I met Dr. Beare at the Tolkien Society conference at Aston uni, back in 2005. I was carrying a little book around with me, for scholars & artists to sign. Dr. Beare signed the book opposite a drawing of Faramir, and added an unpublished sonnet of hers which she'd written about him.
Something to hold dear, and to remember her by.
