Ricky was an amazing individual. He was born to Alton and Carol Finnis and grew up in Havendale Jamaica. Always a gregarious and generous soul, Ricky could be found "touring" the neighborhood constantly making new friends many of whom he was still in touch with at the time of his passing. He attended and graduated from St. George's College in Kingston, Jamaica in 1985. After moving to South Florida, Ricky later became a certified Computer Technician and as a entrepreneur had his own business, Florida Network Solutions, providing Internet Technology consulting for small to mid-sized companies. Ricky also worked in different technology positions for various companies over the years. For the past two years he was head of the IT department at Boca Dental. Although he loved computers, his passions involved music, music production and film-making. Ricky expressed his creativity in these areas first by developing and promoting local musicians. One prominent individual who he discovered and whose career he helped launch was Taurus Riley along with a number of other reggae artists. Likewise, Ricky promoted many music events in the late 80's in South Florida. He was fondly and commonly referred to as DJ Ricky D as he would spin music to the delight of the many attendees to his parties and at clubs. One could hear people chanting " Ricky D in the place to be!" at these events. Ricky also co-directed an award winning short film, Lucky Number 21 in 2006. The film was awarded Best Directing, Best Soundtrack and Best Editing by Project Twenty 1 Film Festival. He even worked on the set of the Tyler Perry movie Meet the Browns. His ultimate dream career was to become a noted Film Director and Executive Producer. Ricky would probably say, however, that his greatest accomplishment was raising and caring for his son Ricardo (Ricky) Jr. also know as Lil Rick who was born on July 22nd 1997. Ricky Jr is a college student at Florida Southwestern College following in the footsteps of his father pursing a degree in Audio Technology. Ricky enjoyed entertaining and one of his favorite past-times was cooking or "grilling-up some food", as he would say. He appreciated all aspects of cooking and whether it was one person or a neighborhood he loved to feed people. He had a kind heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Ricky had a special place in his heart for the Autism community and participated and coordinated fundraisers for friends whose children live with autism. Ricky also relished the messages of Bob Marley and would be often found listening to his music. Equally, he was very spiritual and read his Bible almost daily. He liked to travel, and to pursue his career goals he lived both in Atlanta and California for a time. He was a "warrior" in every sense of the word and had overcome many obstacles that life thew at him. Ricky is remembered with deep love by friends and family alike. He is survived by both his parents Alton and Carol Finnis, siblings Simone Finnis, Alton Finnis Jr. and Heidi Finnis, his son Ricky Jr. and his niece Natalia. He will be dearly missed. (If you are considering flowers, please know those are welcomed. However, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Ricky Jr. college fund. You may find the link under charities. Thank you)

Well I rememeber meeting Ricky back in the 90's at my Aunt's house I'm Lehigh Acres when he lived over there. He had an infectious smile and personality. He had to be Jamaican and also he seemed very intelligent. I hope you are at peace and smiling. Prayers with the family. Kaye.

Ricky. It has been almost a year since your passing, and I am still in disbelief. I still have not deleted all your text, or phone messages. I am so sorry that I was not there to comfort you when you were in pain.
Love you always ❤

I am very saddened by the loss of not only a friend but also a talent the likes of one who does not come around often. My sadness is only knowing him for the last six years. I will miss his friendship, his talent, and especially his faith in all human beings. God bless him. Dan
