Ricardo Sandoval Obituary

July 14, 1954 July 12, 2014

Ric was born on July 14, 1954 in Dinuba, Calif. to Pedro and Jennie Sandoval. He lost his courageous battle to cancer on July 12, in Woodland, in the presence of his family. He left this earth to join his father, Pedro Sandoval, Sr.

He is survived by Arlene, his loving wife of 25 years, and his two sons, Vicente and Nicolas. He is also survived by his mother, Jennie Sandoval; his siblings, Pete Jr. Sandoval (Cyndy), Alvina Carrillo (Manuel), Patti Toews (Bob) and Jaime Sandoval. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Ric attended elementary school and junior high in Dinuba. He graduated from Dinuba High School in 1972. He attended Fresno State and graduated with a BS in Political Science and BA in Accounting. Ric was currently employed with the State Controller's Office, Division of Audits in Sacramento as a Senior Management Auditor. He had 27 years of state service.

Ric was a family man whose passion was supporting all of his sons' sporting and scouting activities. He was a YMCA coach for seven years. He was also involved in Cal Ripken Baseball serving as a coach and treasurer. Ric was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America with both sons. He served as a Cub Scout Den leader and a Boy Scout leader. He attended many scout camps with both boys which led both boys to become Eagle Scouts. He also enjoyed family vacations to the Southwest and especially Disneyland. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Woodland. Ric was also passionate about his job for the state. As he fought his battle with cancer, he still went to work because he loved what he did and enjoyed working with all of his co-workers. He will be missed by them.

A viewing will be held on July 17 at Dopkins Funeral Chapel, 189 S. J. St., Dinuba from 4 to 8 p.m. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the chapel. A Mass will be recited on Friday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 356 N. Villa Ave., Dinuba at 1 p.m. with burial afterwards. A celebration of life will be held in Woodland at a later date.

Remembrances can be sent to UCSF Foundation, Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 9414-0339 or https://makeagift.ucsf.edu/hospitals.

Ric fought his battle with courage, grace and dignity. We admire the steadfast love of his wife Arlene and sons Vince and Nic whom Ric loved very much and were the source of his pride and admiration. They, along with his faith in God were his pillars of strength during his rough time. May he rest in peace.

Ric was very passionate about helping his boys and that is where I met him, during our early Cal Ripken baseball days with his son Nicolaus and my son ALejandro who played together on several teams. I really enjoyed conversing with Ric over the years and sharing stories. We will really miss him God bless you Ric and God bless your family.

I worked with Ric for over 25 years both at the Lottery and SCO. We had offices next door to each other for 3 years. Ric was the ultimate family man and a very dedicated employee. We talked daily and I considered him a good friend. He was honest, trustworthy and always willing to help. He also had a great sense of humor. SCO will not be the same without him! Just know that his family meant the world to him and he bragged of you often!

Ric was my employee for over 12 years at the State Controller's Offoce. He was always passionate about everything that he did. Be it coaching his son's in sports, helping them in scouts, talking about the latest audit assignment, planning a family vacation, and so on. I had the privilege of having many after work conversations with Ric as we know Ric loved to talk. I will treasure those conversations forever. He really was a one in a million kind of guy, husband and father. Those that had him in their lives were blessed.
