Cook, Rich5/7/1960 - 9/4/2023Ann Arbor, MichiganRich was a light in this world- to his family and to people he didn't even know. Family was the center of his life, always there with Mary to lovingly raise Ian and Jessie, who both made him so proud. To spend time with them and other family members...

Not sure what to say?

Rich was a buzzing bee who made me laugh. He collected nectar and passed it along. This world has been diminished. I am sad. Condolences to the family of Dionysos.

I join everyone in grieving the loss of such a beautiful soul. Mary, Ian, and Jessie my deepest condolences are with you. I hope y´all are coping well. I knew Rich from my time at EPA and our interactions were comparatively short, and even then, Rich´s humanity and kindness would shine bright. The smile goes to his eyes and the welcome is visceral. I can say without doubt that wherever he is now, he is making it a better place.

Mary and family, I'm so sorry to hear about Rich. My thoughts are with you. As a member of the team at EPA that worked on aircraft emissions, Rich made many important contributions. Every day I read something he wrote or was the lead in developing: a section of a rulemaking, a report, a paper, a memorandum, etc. I have great appreciation of Rich for all of these contributions. Also, I have very good memories of Rich's time on the aviation team. I enjoyed all of our work conversations...

Rich was remarkable. A plain, quiet-speaking guy who had enormous depths of insight, clever turns of phrase, and patience. He was generous with all of his talents as well. I had been hoping we might share some volunteer shifts in our retirements. I'm so very sorry for Mary, Ian, Jessie, and the rest of his family and friends. May all the good that he has done for our world and for so many people provide some comfort to you.

My deepest condolences to all Rich's family and friends. Although I only knew Rich in a work context, his dedication, knowledge, and care showed us his true self. He left us far too soon, but left us with an example of how to be a person who makes the world, both near and far, a better place. May your difficult days of loss fade and be replaced by comforting memories that remind you of how Rich made us all better by being himself.

Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. Take care! Chien

I was so lucky to have worked with Rich. I felt like we worked very closely, even though we were far apart (North Carolina & Michigan). Highlights were seeing Rich at conferences (Emissions Inventory, Mobile Source Air Toxics, Air and Waste Management Association), and meetings where he came to North Carolina. If I knew Rich was in our building, I'd run down to see him, even if I wasn't part of the meeting! Rich was caring and kind. He got our spouses and young (4 -6 years old) kids...

Mary - I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers.

Mary, So sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family.
