A Shared Strength
"These past few weeks, so many people have said to me, 'Oh, my God, I can't believe how strong you are,' " said Christina Lynch, whose husband, Richard, 30, was a bond trader at Eurobrokers.

She brushes off the praise. The strength, she says, is Richard's. And she is borrowing it now as she did throughout their four-year marriage, and perhaps for many, many years before, when the golden couple grew up together in the leafy precincts of Douglaston Manor in Queens.

Mr. Lynch, one of six children, dreamed of a houseful of his own and exuded confidence, his wife said, and his positive attitude was contagious. "I got stronger when I married him," she said.

When their first child, Olivia, was born 15 months ago, Mrs. Lynch said her joy was often swamped by fear that she "didn't have a clue how to take care of this little tiny baby." Her husband would calmly reassure her: "He was like, 'Look at you with this baby. You're a natural. You're doing it already.' I needed him to tell me that."

These days, when Mrs. Lynch feels herself slipping, she listens for her husband's voice, reminding her that "Olivia needs you so you can't lose it." When she goes running, as she and Rich used to do together before the baby was born, she pushes Olivia in a jogging stroller and talks to her husband inside her head. "O.K., Rich," she tells him. "You have to give me a sign, give me some guidance. You have to get me through today."

Not sure what to say?

Sorry, i meant to address you Christina as i was thinking about Olivia...

Olivia,
Please know that all of those who had the pleasure of knowing Rich think of your family so often... i miss his relaxed nature and easy going spirit - he was such an authentic person

I fondly remember Rich as a roommate, teammate and friend in our time together at the University of South Carolina. I remember his smile, laid back nature and good heart. I can "see him" hanging out on his guitar just creating... As an athlete, he was such a talent - one of those guys who didn't have to practice or prep as much as others and still be able to play big time tennis :) I will always have warm smile when i think of our time together on the team and think of Rich and his family...

Every year on 9-11 I really think about you Christine and Olivia hoping life is great he will be missed I loved when u guys came in for haircuts I often think about Jennifer Cynthia and roz hope everyone is well

I came upon this website and got the chills. I had the privilege of knowing Richie since we where little kids growing up playing tennis. The best of friends... We shared many moments together. He was honest, compassionate and a whole lot of fun to be around. We took the SATs together, travelled to florida, california, france...a lot of great memories too many to put into words.
I miss my friend but know that i think of you often and always smile.

Olivia,
I often think of your Dad and his easygoing and playful nature. He loves you very much. You have an awesome father! He is a great guy.

Christina,
It's been a long time and I am happy you and Olivia are doing well. I was on the phone with Rich that morning and he is a real life hero. He loves you and adores you. Always did. Always will.

I just found this guestbook and have been crying and laughing at the same time. My heart aches. I wish you and...

Richard,
I can't help but think of you every year on this anniversary, but also of Christina and Olivia. I saw O last year; what a beautful, sweet child! She has lost so much for a girl so young, but I know C has made sure she always knows her father and the wonderful, handsome, smart, funny man he was.
God bless them, God blessed you.
