Richard V. BEARD

I played football with Dick at Fort Hill.
He was good.. In fact he was very good...Time and distance had separated us since High School but we had a nice chat at our class reunion last year. He spent a lot of time telling me of his friends from Virginia Tech. No question that he was attached to them.

Carolyn and Susan Cameron loved Mr. Beard! We always loved coming to your house and playing basketball in the driveway with Mr. Beard. We sure did have a bunch of good times with your mom and dad. Hugs to the entire family.

I knew Dickie as Aunt Mabel and Uncle Ralph's son. My mother, Pat Horner, was his first cousin. My grandmother, Rosa Van Meter Myers, was a sister to Aunt Mabel. I last talked to Dickie at a viewing in Charles Town, WV. He was very happy to talk about football as my son, Alan Fiddler, is the head coach at Patrick Henry there in Roanoke. His warm smile and pleasant personality are my memories of him. Isn't it a blessing that you know he is safe and well in the arms of our Father! God...

He was a great friend. Never heard him say anything bad about anybody. Good German Club man. We will miss him at the football games.

It's been many years since we've seen each other, but I think of you and your family often. I have good memories of your dad from the times I was privileged to be around him. I am truly sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I knew Dickie at V.P.I. when we played football on the GREAT 1954 undefeated team! Dickie was a GREAT football player and a true Maryland gentleman! My wife and family got to know Dickie much better when we returned to the USA and went to the VPI (Va. Tech) football games and events. The family all say- what a GREAT and funny guy Dickie was every time we would see him and his lovely wife with her wonderful cookies. Dickie will be missed by all who knew him or heard about him and his wonderful...

We just want to express our heartfelt condolences to all the Beard family. Va. Tech sports have always been a part of my life. I had heard about Dickie long before I met him. He was obviously a great athlete but now I remember him for the great guy he was and for his big smile and strong handshake. You his family are a living testament and reflection of him. God bless each of you with peace and comfort.
