BEAUVAIS
Richard A. Beauvais, Jr., a 38-year resident of Austin, passed away on November 17, 2009 in his boyhood home in San Antonio after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 13, 1949 in Fitchburg, MA., he was the first-born child of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Beauvais, Sr. In 1954 his family moved to Madrid, Spain. Some of his favorite boyhood memories were of exploring the ruins of castles and once grand estates in the Spanish countryside with his younger brother, Bob. After six years in Spain, the family spent one year in Great Falls, MT before arriving in San Antonio in 1961. He entered seventh grade at St. Gregory Catholic School where he met his lifelong friend and future brother-in-law Jerry Caples. He entered Central Catholic High School on an academic scholarship and graduated in 1967. He continued his education at San Antonio College and UT-Austin. He was an Old Testament scholar. Richard married Gette Caples in San Antonio on September 1, 1973. They lived in Austin where they raised three children: Jeannette Marie, Richard. A.(III), and Timothy Joseph. He worked as a union carpenter, a childcare worker in the MHMR system, several years with the IRS and nearly twenty years with the US Postal Service; where in addition to his work duties he spent a considerable amount of his own time as a shop steward helping fellow employees who felt they had been wronged. He was a prolific and talented writer whose special interests were the Old Testament and mythology. He leaves behind many manuscripts, including several chapters of a children's book written for his only grandchild. Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Brian and John and his father, Richard Sr. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy, his brother, Bob; his sister, Judy: his daughter Jeannette and her husband, Chris; his two sons, Rick and Tim; and his granddaughter, Alexis. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Rd. San Antonio, TX. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The St. Vincent de Paul Society to aid the poor and needy.

Not sure what to say?

It is with true heartfelt sorrow that I send this condolence to the Richard Beauvais family. I had the honor and priviledge of eating with Richard that Friday night in June 2007 at the Central Catholic High School 40th reunion. we were able to "catch up" on the past and talk about the present and future that night. I will certainly miss him at all the future gatherings. We often "bummed" around while in high school and even during our times in college and while I was in the Navy. Again...

Bob:

Just wanted to let you know I am very sorry to read of your loss.
I wish you and your family all the best during the difficult days ahead.
May your memories of your brother bring you peace in the days and years to come.

Dear Richard, Although it's been years since I last saw you, buddy, I have not forgotten you. I still remember where you lived as a teen. I fondly remember meeting with you and the other guys every morning before school. I also remember when we hitchhiked to the castle one day to explore and then hitchhiked back to my house.
I extend my condolences to your family, especially Jerry.
Your old, highschool friend, Joe Torres
