During my years at SFAI, I'd always meet up with Richard (he never taught me) but was a great connection and friend. Bon voyage and thanks......

Richard was one of the most important influences on me during my time at SFAI. Beyond just being a teacher, he was also a friend and mentor. He will be deeply missed, and will always stay in my heart.

Richard supported my journey at SFAI. Without him I would have never gotten my degrees there. But more significantly he supported my journey as an artist. I can think of no way to pay that back, I can only pay it forward and his influence and model of what a teacher does lives on.

Richard was a teacher whose voice stayed in my head for the many years after my graduation from SFAI. He was funny, kind, and smart. He was also immensely talented. I feel fortunate to have been in his orbit. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Richard was an amazing teacher. I had come to SFAI as a much older student working toward an MFA in film. I am disabled and have difficulty moving. Because Richard's intelligence seemed to cover so many areas, I think I took his class three times. He said critiques were like jazz, and his leading us in wordy, jazzy insights was joyful.

I have a memory of Richard that still brings a smile to my face. I am sure that at the time, he wouldn't have wanted to break his composure in...
