General Bertrand was a kind and caring commander of the Nebraska Air National Guard during his tenure. My experience with him was flying hundreds of hours in the NEANG Base Flight aircraft (C-13-D) as a flight engineer. He was an excellent pilot and an interesting conversationalist during many long trips sitting with his in the cockpit.
