Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. He was an outstanding physician. I had the pleasure of providing anesthesia care for many of his patients at UAB. He was always fun to work with. I remember he enjoyed playing hard rock music in the OR, but that never got in the way of providing excellent care. My sincere condolences to the family in the loss of this truly outstanding person. A life well lived.

What a brilliant mind and sharp wit! Richard and I were the first Fellows in Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at UAB! He was already running his own endocrine lab for testing and research, and supported my goal to set up the IVF Program in 1984! He was a good friend and tried to help me understand the politics of our Department as we shifted to a new Chairman! He also shared his experience with the now ASRM and the process of working with them and our Division Director Ben Younger who...

He was my doctor for over twenty years, fourteen of those with infertility. I was one of his first patients in the basement of the UAB Ambulatory Clinic. In the past few years, he had several medical struggles and he rebounded. In March of 2022, he and his wife Kathy made the extra effort on a freezing afternoon to attend Katherine's wedding. We made sure to have reserved, special seating for him and Kathy. We asked them to sit on the row behind us with family. When we saw him before the...

Kathy contacted me to let me know that he had passed away. Dr. Richard Blackwell left this world for a better place. We had an infertility journey for over fourteen years. My OB/GYN and good friend, Dr. Phil Walton referred me to Dr. Blackwell. I was in the group as one of Dr. Blackwell's first patients at UAB's Fertility Clinic in 1984. The practice was in the basement of the Ambulatory Center. What we had hoped would be a quick visit to "fix the problem" turned into twenty years of being...

I am so sorry to hear about the death of Dick Blackwell. I worked with him at UAB from 1982-2020, when he retired. Dick was a good friend and was my doctor. He was an excellent physician and a good colleague and person. Dick kept the REI fellowship going after most of the faculty left and before they were able to recruit additional faculty. He was a dedicated teacher and a brilliant REI physician. He was loved by his patients and he had an excellent bedside manner. I will fondly remember him...

I remember, fondly, the Thanksgiving my mom and I were invited to your home. She spoke of it often, the wonderful time we had with Richard, and my dance partner, Kathy. Another time, Richard graciously shared his prized 150 year old tequila with me. Cheers, Richard, and rest well, buddy.

Dick was a colleague and a friend. I will be forever thankful for the role that he and Ben Younger played in recruiting me from UT Southwestern Medical School to UAB and for their support in developing a robust laboratory-based research program in the Dept of OB Gyn. Dick was a joy to work with and my wife and I will always have fond memories of our visits to Dick and Kathy's home for fantastic dinners with friends.

Dear Kathy, So sorry to hear of Dr. Blackwell's passing. It has been many years since I visited with both of you. I always appreciated his brilliance and your devotion to him. Hope I will be a part of his celebration of life.
