Mom and Dad (Herb and Mary Messenger) lived in Marblehead, down the street from Dick (Dickie, they called him). Mom told us that after Dick's plane had been shot down and he was missing, news came later that he had been found. My father, not one to show a lot of emotion, ran all the way down to their house with tears in his eyes. He was overjoyed his nephew was alive! And so proud.
My love and warm thoughts to all of Dick's family,
His cousin, Ann Messenger

I knew Dick through one of my friends who dated him years ago. He was a kind and generous man. I ended up buying his horse Pep, who he dearly loved. He came to visit a few months later, walked in the pasture and called pep over, she smelled him up and down, she knew who he was! I was amazed at the love they had for each other. Pep has been gone for a long time now.
" I will imagine them together beyond the clouds!" til we meet again farewell!
