Roney Funeral Home Obituary

Richard F. Brophy, 91, passed peacefully Monday April 2nd with family at his side. His wife of 54 years Helen (Rudy) Brophy passed in 1996. He is survived by his three sons, Richard F. Jr. and his wife Paula (Villatico) Brophy of Grafton, Dennis M. and his wife Lynda (Wilkinson) Brophy of Boylston, James J. and his wife Bianca (Chronowski) Brophy of Summit NJ; Five grandchildren, Matthew Brophy of Melbourne FL, Erin (Brophy) Gates and her husband Matthew of Milford, Maggie Brophy of Brooklyn NY, Meghan Brophy of New York City, Christopher Dixon of Pittsburgh PA; Seven nieces, Judy Lucas, Janet Bibinski, Maureen McLaughlin, Christine Rudy, Susan, Maggie, Sheila McKaig and one nephew, David McLaughlin. Mr. Brophy was born and raised in Worcester the son of the late James F. and Josephine (Hetu) Brophy and has lived in Grafton many years. He was a 1938 graduate of Worcester South High School and a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Grafton. Dick began working at Davis Memorials in Worcester after high school and then enlisted in The US Army in 1942. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Technical Sgt. in The Army Air Force in The European Theatre in France and The Rhineland. He was awarded The EMMETCR with 3 Battle Stars and was honorably discharged in October of 1945. Dick then continued to work at Davis Memorials which he then purchased in 1962 and continued to operate with his sons until retiring in 1990. After retiring he became Head Shipper at his son Dennis' company The Dust Door in Boylston for several years. Dick was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather all his life who enjoyed traveling with his wife and following his children and grandchildren's activities as they grew. The family suggests you honor him with memorial donations to The Dana Farber Cancer Institute / Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline MA 02445-9924 or flowers may be sent if desired. The family would like to thank the staff at Millbury Health Care for the loving care they gave. A special thanks to Dr. Mary Wendel and Rn. Stephanie Fasulo for their compassionate and unending care throughout his latter years. Funeral Mass & Visitation The funeral will be held Tuesday April 10th from The Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. North Grafton followed by the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 17 Waterville St. North Grafton. He will then be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Helen with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. All are invited to visit with his family from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Tuesday April 10th at The Roney Funeral Home before going to St. Mary's for his Funeral Mass.
