CLINTON

Richard A. Buote, 80, died Saturday, November 25, 2023, in his home, surrounded by the love and care of his family, after an illness.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Pupecki) Buote; three children: Michelle Schmidt and her husband, Michael, Brian Buote and his wife, Brianne, all of Clinton, and Jodie Grady and her husband, Shaun, of Holden; siblings Robert Buote and his wife, Sharon, of Ithaca, NY, and Jeanne Montecalvo and her husband, Paul, of Lutz, FL; six grandchildren: Maeghan and Brendan Grady, Ryan and Colin Schmidt, and Jackson and Austin Buote; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dottie Conroy and her husband Larry, Joe Pupecki and his wife MaryLou, Donald Pupecki and his wife Kathy; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was born in Worcester and raised in Marlborough, son of Arthur R. and Eileen M. (Molloy) Buote. He had been a resident of Clinton for 50 years.

Adoringly known as Poppo to his grandchildren, Richard loved spending time with his family — vacationing with them on Cape Cod, cooking for them, babysitting his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, and enjoying visits with his grandpups.

A member of St. John’s Church, Clinton, his hobbies included golfing, softball and fishing with his brothers-in-law. He was an avid football fan and loved coaching. For years he coached Clinton flag football and Pop Warner teams winning a state championship in 1996.

Richard’s funeral will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304. Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.  His family will gather to honor and remember his life during calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the Buote family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. John’s Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, MA 01510 or the American Cancer Society.
