Richard Norman Burnell, age 55 of Putney, Ga. died peacefully at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice on January 18, 2015. Born in Ft. Belvoir, Va. August 5, 1959, he is the son of Deacon Garry and Arletha (LaValley) Burnell. Mr. Burnell graduated from Salmon River Central in 1978. He served in the US Navy until his retirement. He married Janet Yates which ended in divorce. He graduated from the Albany Technical College with outstanding scholastic achievement, was a member of Presidents National Honor Society and had a grade point average of 4.0. He worked as a computer draftsman until he became ill. He married Julie Ellis in 2003. She survives. He is survived by a daughter, Christina (Michael) Papagolas, a son, Daniel and 3 granddaughters of Providence, RI; a brother, Walter (Patricia) of Miamisburg, Oh; sisters, Geri (John) Vanier of Malone and Lynn (Robert) Gadway of Brushton, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Timothy and grandparents, Norman and Lorraine Burnell and Daniel and Sarah LaValley. The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Westville from 10 to 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am with Rev. Howard Venette officiating. Spring burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton. In lieu of flowers donations may be offered for future mass intentions for Richard.
