Rejoice always,

Billie, I know it seems awfully difficult now
but think of the memories that you shared.
He is no longer suffering. His spirit is still
with you. You have my deepest sympathy.

Richard was a dear friend.
May God bless the good memories of Richard, and may His great love surroung, support and comfort you in the years ahead.

Let me add to the chorus of people who counted Dick Bussard as a mentor and friend. He hired me at CSX and was the best boss I ever had and more importantly a good friend. His compassion for the people around him and his dedication to doing the right thing will stay with me forever.

Friends from the Andrew Jackson High School Class of '52 are saddened to learn of Richard's passing.

Richard obviously applied those same principles for scholarly successes and achievements he attained early in life to his personal and professional adult life. We will miss Richard at our Class of '52 reunions; he could always be counted on to attend these gatherings every five years.

We extend our prayers and heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Andrew Jackson Classmates

Jacksonville has lost a favorite son. Dick was not only a journalist who reported the news-- he also made news by standing up to injustice, corruption, and falsehood. He loved his family and Jacksonville was part of his family. He will be greatly missed.

No words can express Dick's impact on Jacksonville. His civil rights reporting was at a time the rascists still had the edge in this city. He risked his job, slashed tires, and bodily harm to shine a light on Jacksonville's dirty truth.
Billee & family, you have my deepest sympathy; Jacksonville, we owe this man a sincere thank you.
