O'Brien Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services - South Hadley Obituary

Richard Carrignan, 91, died Friday June 7th at home. He was born in Chicopee, son of the late Lionel and Pearl Carrignan. He grew up in Chicopee and graduated from Rosary High School in Holyoke. He graduated from the Holyoke Trade School with a Lithography Degree. He then joined the Air Force, where he served four years during the Korean War. He has lived in South Hadley since his discharge from the Air Force and as his family grew, became the finest provider and protector. He truly lived by his Catholic beliefs and displayed truth and honor throughout his life. St. Patrick’s Church Choir enjoyed the base his voice provided for decades. As a member of the Tiger AC Club in Chicopee he circulated with his fellow non-competitive sportsmen. He was a committed hunter during cooler seasons and an avid fisherman during warmer months. He was a retired lithographer for Hano Business Forms Inc. and later served his fellow residents as a minibus driver for the Council on Aging of South Hadley. God’s love, joy, peace and humor were passed onto whomever he touched during his daily routines around town! He leaves his beloved wife Lorraine (Jette) Carrignan, two daughters Cecile Carrignan of South Hadley and Denise Bondoni of Plymouth, MI, his sister RoseMarie King of Chicopee, five grandchildren, and four delightful great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Robert Carrignan and his sisters Claire Letellier and Lillian Carrignan. The funeral mass will be Wednesday June 12th at St. Patrick Church at 11am. Burial and military salute following in St. Rose Cemetery. Richard was a strong advocate for St Jude’s Children as well as his spiritual home of St Patrick’s Church. Should you feel led to donate, he would be greatly appreciative. Calling hours at the O’Brien Family Funeral Home are Tuesday 4:00-7:00 pm.
