Richard Charles “Charlie” Burton of Linden passed away at home Friday morning.  He was 63.

Charlie was a volunteer fireman and former member of the town council in Veedersburg.  He worked at Frey Tires in Attica, then the Co-Op in Veedersburg, followed by Heritage and most recently at WWL in Lafayette, inside the Subaru facility.  He enjoyed carpentry, cooking, camping and fishing.  He was an avid Packers fan.  Most of all, he enjoyed being Papaw to his grandchildren.

Born Sept. 22, 1961 in Gibson City, Illinois, he was the son of Richard Edward Burton and Sandra Lou Moody Burton.  He graduated from Attica High School and attended Purdue.  He married Michele Bridge Martin, who survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Michele Burton of Linden; mother, Sandra Burton; four children, Katherine Gray (Michael), Roxanne Burton, Jesse Martin, Stephanie Kennedy; brother, Roger Burton (Sandy); sister, Cindy Ewart (Jules); ten grandchildren, Isaac, Adriana, Jayce, Penelope, Lydia, Karter, Lizzie, Klaire, Maggie and Iris; in-laws Cathie Randles and Mike & Jan Bridge; several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a step-son, Tyler Bridge, his father, both sets of grandparents and a niece, Brandy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, Aug. 14th at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 AM Friday, Aug. 15th, led by Pastor Gary Johnson.  After the service, he will be laid to rest at the New Ross Cemetery.
