Not sure what to say?

I was a BM2 at the time, in La Madd, in charge of Boat Division. One day my crew was putting Capt Charles' Gig in the water...something went wrong while it was being lifted and the Gig crashed on the boat deck of Orion. Big noise, big damage. Capt came out on the deck, saw what happened. Cool, calm and collected he came to me and asked: "Petty officer Manes, you got another boat for me?" I said, "yessir, I've got an OMB". He said "put that in the water" and just as calm, he walked away....

I served with Dick when I was the UK Exchange Officer in SubDevRon12 in 1977-1979. He was patient, considerate and understanding towards "the Brit" - delightful to work with and a great companion when ashore. He and Janice have remained friends ever since, and it was a pleasure to be able to entertain them when they visited England. I wish I could have been present at his funeral to bid farewell to a fine officer and gentleman.
My sincere condolences to all the family.
