Dear Paddy and Family: I am so very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We go back a long time together-- grad school at URI in the late 50s, Shannock, hunting trips, Sealab 111, San Diego visits, crustacean and finfish biology, and the much anticipated annual Holiday Greetings. He was a fine man, valued colleague, and outstanding marine scientist whose contributions shall be long remembered. I am grateful to have known you both. I am sorry for your loss and hope that family and friends bring strength to you all to get through this difficult time. I was not a personal friend but am a fellow of the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences. He was a fine person. He will be missed.

Condolences to the Cooper Family. Remembering Dick's contributions to lobster research during the late 1960's at the U.S.Bureau of Commercial Fisheries Laboratory, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I was the Director of the Lab, a fellow Michigander, and friend of Dick's uncle,the late Edwin Cooper.
