Not sure what to say?

May Dick' s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. He was a very dear friend to us and we will remember the wonderful times that we enjoyed with him.He was a gifted Doctor and many former patients are alive today because of his ability. Rest in peace Dick.

We pause to remember the profound memories with Dr. Courtney and his family. On this first anniversary of his passing, may his memory be a lifelong testament to all that new him.

Dr. Courtney saved my life! When I was 7 years old I had open heart surgery at Baystate Medical. At the age of 62 I had aortic valve replacement and my cardiac surgeon said Dr. Courtney had done a great job with my coarctation repair all those years ago.

Dr. Richard Courtney is the sole reason that I chose Pediatric Surgery for my career. My family and I had the pleasure of knowing Dick Courtney for over 40 years. He was a mentor, partner, and friend. You will never find a more kind, gentle, and generous man. And in addition, he was quite a character! Richard practiced Pediatric Surgery in Springfield for 42 years. He was a superb technical surgeon. Honors included "Physician of the Year", and he was voted "Teacher of the Year" by the...

I worked closely with Dr Courtney in the pediatric OR. He was the the Doc that inspired us to do more, care more, exceed and grow and always keep the patient in focus. He was the bar for team work, I didn´t realize until much later that few reached that bar! Thank you for setting that standard in my early medical career.

In the early 80's I worked in the OR with Dr. Courtney. He was very dedicated to the patient and the OR team. Always a pleasure to work with him!!! He always had a big smile and wonderful laugh. Prayers to the family. Gail (currently living in Virginia)

Lillian Edelman sends her condolences. She has find memories working with the great doctor

My husband and I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Courtney for saving our 5 week old son in 1970 by performing surgery for strangulated hernias. Our son Michael is now 54 years old and in good health. I never forgot what he did for us. May he rest in peace. Our sincere condolences.

Dr Courtney saved my life and that of my unborn baby in 1982. He called a surgeon friend of his to do surgery on me when I was 4 months pregnant and in severe pain. My doctor dismissed my pain which turned out to be caused by my appendix. If not for Dr. Courtney´s intervention my baby and I could have died. Forever grateful! May he rest in peace.
