Adams & Swanson Funeral Home - North Platte Obituary

Richard Edmund Curry, 71, passed away on May 26, 2024 in North Platte. He was born to James E. and Eleanor L. Curry on October 9, 1952.

During his childhood, he lived in Indiana and Pennsylvania before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. In 1972, he graduated from Burke High School.

His love of trains led him to North Platte to work for Union Pacific Railroad in 1976. Part of the job included training many engineer students, which he really enjoyed. He retired in 2012 after 37 years.

Richard had many hobbies and loved music, trains, and construction, but the hobby he loved the most was making bubble lights. With his inventive spirit, he created unique lights that were always a delight to behold. He was so prolific in creating bubble lights, that he became known as "Mr. Bubble."

Richard is survived by his wife, Robin; sons Richard and Nicholas (Kayla) of North Platte; Noel of Sutherland and CJ of Omaha. He is also survived by his brother James (Shella) Curry of Lincoln, mother-in-law Judie Carpenter of North Platte; sisters-in-law Rachelle Thiem of North Platte and Kristy Larrington of Texas; grandchildren Noah, Landon, Nathan and Alyvia all of North Platte, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Darrell Carpenter, and niece Karen Curry.

The angels in heaven are standing around The Pearly Gate patiently waiting to greet and meet “Mr. Bubbles “, AKA Mr. Rich Curry. I imagine once he checks in, he’ll get right to work fitting The Pearly Gate with oodles of strands of his fabulous, colorful, hand crafted bubble light creations.
