Richard Delaney Obituary

Richard Bryant Delaney "Dick", 79, of Farmington and formerly of West Hartford, loving husband of Patricia (Glass) Delaney peacefully passed away at his home with his caring family by his side on Friday, October 12, 2018. Dick was born in Slingerlands, New York and was the son of the late Thomas and Dorothy (Briggs) Delaney. He was a 1957 graduate of Hartford Public High School and he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Dick worked as an area sales representative in the aerospace industry for more than 30 years. He also worked for Amodio Moving and Storage of New Britain. Dick truly enjoyed many facets of life. Upon retirement, Dick enjoyed being an usher at the Hartford Civic Center and Rentschler Field, as well as helping others as a driver for Companions and Homemakers. He also enjoyed spending time at the Farmington Senior Center where he made many friends. For many years, he was an umpire and soccer official for the town of West Hartford, he also coached basketball. Dick loved puzzles, playing cards and games, especially Rummikub, Mexican Train and Trivial Pursuit. Dick enjoyed watching horseracing and he was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, but his favorite sports to watch were the ones his grandchildren competed in. He loved his day trips and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor. He always loved to tell a good joke for anyone to enjoy or was willing to listen. Dick could always be found with a pocket full of pens and a newspaper in hand. Dick was the definition of a truly devoted husband, father and grandfather, a kind and gentle man who was always willing to care for and help others. In addition to his wife Patricia of 49 years, Dick will be missed by his son, Richard B. Delaney, II and his wife Melissa of Ellington; his daughter, Kathryn E. Miller and her husband Michael of Wethersfield. He also leaves his six cherished grandchildren and his two sisters-in-law Allyson Glass of Beacon Falls, CT and Linda Tokarchuk and her husband Edward of Saratoga Springs, New York and brother-in-law George Glass and his wife Roberta of West Hartford; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, Wethersfield, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, (Section 14), Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department and EMT Services, 1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032. Dick's family would also like to thank the entire staff of Hartford Healthcare Hospice of Southington and the UCONN Cardiology Department for their care, compassion and dedication. Dick has always been the comedian, always ready with a joke or two, even though sometimes they were a bit off the beaten path. Condolences to his family.

The members of the Hartford Public High School Class of 1957 send our deepest sympathy. Dick was an active alumni of our class and years ago worked on the reunion committee. We are thankful that he was able to join us at our 60th Reunion last year.

My thoughts, prayers & deepest condolences go out to the family, friends & associates of Dick Delaney. I knew Dick way back when we were in high school (he attended Hartford High & I attended Mt.St. Joseph Academy) & I was dating one of his close friends. I will always remember Dick as a nice guy, lot's of fun to be with, part of my history and youth. May he rest in eternal peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him.
