Not sure what to say?

No telling exactly when Dick Dobson ( RD1) hit at the top of his game, but about the time I showed up on the scene as a rookie in 1964 he’d had a long streak going … On a Friday RD2 and I would have chucked our St Thomas U textbooks aside early (if we’d bothered to locate them at all during the week) and by the time dinner was rolling around at the Dobson household way out Memorial Drive we’d be mellowed out, banging out Woody Guthrie on our respective guitars and deep into some planning for...

My 90-year-old father does the NY Times Crossword Puzzle every day of his life - sometimes he cheats and sometimes he doesn't. One of his favorite words is "oner". A "oner" is an extraordinary or one-of-a-kind person; a corker. Dick Dobson, and Mary Eileen for that matter, were "oners". Both had a zest for the interesting life, a deep love for the arts, a thirst for learning and knowing and a commitment to family. The last time I saw Dick was a few weeks ago. He was riding home from...

Dobbie and Eileen were such wonderful people, so devoted to each other and to their family, which extended far beyond the normal boundaries of families. They took us all in. They will be missed.

He was my "Uncle Dick," my late mother's brother, or, more accurately, her half-brother.

But there was nothing "half" about him.

As a kid, he seemed a larger than life figure. He had a booming voice. He wore hats, including a Stetson on occassion, and sometimes an ascot, and sometimes very loud sportcoats. He drove a black Mercedes. You didn't see any of that too often around my button-downed suburban enclave in Baytown.

He quoted Shakespeare off the cuff. When you're...

It is hard to talk about Dick without including Mary Eileen. They were a couple with a great sense of adventure, a wide range of interests and were kind and gracious hosts. Over the years and in several countries I spent many enjoyable hours with them. Dick was always a man full of ideas, sometimes serious and other times quirky and fun and he was always Himself, a wonderful one of a kind. I shall miss him.

I got to know the Dobsons when I was a student 40 years ago. Today I trace my interest in wine back to the fine Bordeaux I was served at their house. Mr. Dobson was a truly impressive person and I'm sorry to hear that he's gone. My condolences to his family.

What a wonderful man Mr. Dobson was. I had the pleasure of getting to know him when his granddaughter Megan married my son Brady. We had many delightful visits over the years and I will miss his loving personality and intelligent conversations. What a special person and special family!

It is impossible for me to comment on Dick Dobson without mentioning his life long love, Mary Eileen. It was a great privelege to get to know Mary Eileen and Dick the last two years. I have never known a couple, of any age, who lived life more fully and joyfully , and they obviously enjoyed life a great deal longer than most people even think of surviving. Their concern for others, the love they showed their friends and family, and their involvement in their community are shining examples of...

Dick and Mary Eileen were a very fun couple and a class act. We enjoyed many Explorers Club events with them and will remember them fondly. Condolences to their family. Paul Teten and Virgnina Holbrook
