I just learned of Fr Downing's death. I owe so much to this man and his ministry at St James. I first entered St James on Easter, 1983, having agreed to meet Richard Smith and Dennis Jones. Father Downing supervised me as a Seminarian at St James’. I will never forget his love of the liturgy and his kindness.

I owe a debt of gratitude, and of strengthened faith, to The Rev. Richard E. Downing. even though I had only met him twice during his active years as the rector of St. James Episcopal Church. For several years, and well before the merger with St. Monica, I worshiped at St. James every Sunday during the month of July. It was then that the late Rev. Ronald P.
