He was my CO in Vietnam, the best officer I ever had. Great leader. Everyone thought he was going to be a general, but a bullet got in the way. My book about the war tells this story too. Dear Jane, Ellen and I are so very saddened to hear about Dick. I have always credited Dick for being a major part of my training in Pediatrics, and keeping me on track through my first 2 years at Fitzsimons. I always think of Dick as a role model of what excellence in medicine should be, but it is also obvious that he is what a man should be in all aspects of life. I will never forget how you would feed us when we were on call together, as if being on call with Dick was not reward...
