Mr. Everett was a local legend.
Growing up in Lake Oswego, Oregon in the late 70s as a young BMX rider, we used to all admire Kool Stop brake pads. One day, I finally built up the courage to go in and talk with Mr. Everett. He gave me a tour of the pad manufacturing process and decided to sponsor me in my bicycle racing career. I believe I became the first official Kool Stop BMX rider.

We love you Uncle Dick. You will be so missed by so many.
-Steve, Tami & family

I built a tiny garden
In a corner of my heart
I kept it just for lovely things
And bade all else depart
And ever was there music
And flowers blossomed fair;
And never was it perfect
Until you entered there
We are blessed and happy that we had the chance to be a small part of your life. You will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

Back in 2016 when I moved to Portland and lived with Shar, Richard and the rest of the Everett family welcomed me with open arms. And while my time in PDX was short lived, I enjoyed the talks/time I did have with him. Know that my heart aches as well and that you in my prayers. Now you can eat all the pie you want. Rest in Peace, sir.

Sending love to the whole family. I am honored to have known Richard through his daughter Shar. Richard was a true gem—so genuinely warm, kind, and generous. A devoted husband and father who loved to tinker—I’ll remember his boisterous laugh and incessant twinkle in his eye. My most heartfelt condolences.
