We will miss Dick along the Sand Point Road in Maine, in particular our chats about the law and Wiittgenstein.

I went to public schools in Augusta, Maine with Dick for 13 years. He was the Valedictorian of our high school and was a leader right from first grade. He was a scholar, an athlete and a good friend. He led an exemplary life and made a huge impact on society.

I was too early to have him as a professor, but I had the honor and pleasure to work with him on cases in Puerto Rico. Every time Dick spoke,I learned something. More than that, he was more patient with me than I deserved. Every time I needed to know about qualified immunity, I went back to Dick and he explained it again, never chastising me for being unable to keep it in my head. He was a dear man who became my friend. Joe Steinfield. HLS 1964

I will miss those times. If there is anything that I can do please let me know. I am nearby physically and...
