Richard “Rick” Oscar Folsom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed from this world on May 3, 2024, in Ormond Beach, Florida, after a brief illness. He was 87 years old.
Born on November 27, 1936 in Daytona Beach, Florida to Oscar and Theda Folsom, Rick's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and love. He graduated from Mainland Senior High School in 1954 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963.
On April 21, 1963, Rick exchanged vows with the love of his life, Marilyn Meadows, on a beautiful spring day in Daytona Beach, Florida. Their enduring bond of 61 years was a testament to their deep commitment and affection for each other.
Rick was a devoted family man of Christ. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, along with their children James Folsom (and wife Rene), Kimberly Jackson (and husband Jeff) and Kathy Maron (and husband Jeff). He cherished his role as a father and took pride in the accomplishments of his children. Rick also leaves behind his brothers Don Folsom and Gary Folsom (and wife Helen), who shared many cherished memories with him. He was “Papa Rick” to his eight grandchildren, Andrew, Jenna, Jordan, Davis, Lauren, Mason, Aaron, and Evan, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts as well.
Rick's legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service, impacting all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A dedicated professional, Rick devoted 32 years of his life to Bellsouth before embarking on a fulfilling second career with Daytona International Speedway Communications upon retirement. His passion for communication and dedication to his work left a lasting impact on those around him. He was a proud member of the communications team during the historic Apollo missions, including the iconic Apollo 11 moon landing. Rick's contributions to space exploration will always be remembered with reverence.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Rick found joy in various hobbies and interests. An avid golfer, a passionate supporter of Gator football, and a devoted family man, he savored every moment spent with loved ones. He derived great fulfillment from helping others in need and was a pillar of support within his church family. He was a man of faith who loved Jesus, his family, and his church community.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, former Police Chief of Daytona Beach, A. Oscar Folsom and Theda M. Folsom, as well as his wife's parents, Kernis and Ruth Meadows.
A memorial service to celebrate Rick's life will be held at 10:00 AM on May 9, 2024 at Refuge Bible Fellowship, 2323 N. State Street, Unit 62 in Bunnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Richard Folsom's name to Refuge Bible Fellowship at P.O. Box 1697, Bunnell, FL 32110.
Richard Oscar Folsom will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace with the Lord.

It was so nice to see my cousin Rick and his family so many times over the years when we would return to the Daytona area to visit my family (our mothers were sisters). He always had great stories to tell and was a genuinely nice person. My parents also loved him and I'm sure they are happy to be reunited with him again. We will miss you Rick! God bless you and your entire family. Jan and Carl Wagner

Rick was my cousin (our mothers were sisters) and I always enjoyed being around him. He was witty, kind, mild mannered, always ready to laugh (even about himself). I admired his deep faith in God and his life of service. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace.
