Richard Lee Granger, 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Dick was born June 11, 1928, in Clyde, Ohio, the son of Lee and Stella Granger. He attended school in Delta, Ohio, graduating with the class of 1946. He continued his education at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. From 1946 - 1949 he served in the Air Force in Japan.
He and Jean Garrington were married May 9, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dick spent his career in financial institutions retiring in 1993 from First Whitney Bank and Trust in Atlantic. As long as his health permitted, he was an avid golfer. He had a life-long interest in sports and was a football and basketball referee for many years.
Along with his wife, Jean of Atlantic, Dick is survived by his daughters, Susan (Larry) Treloar of Clear Lake, IA, Jeanne Pike of Bondurant, IA and Linda (Doug) Ward of Clear Lake, IA; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George (Vonda) Cummins of Charles City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dick in death were his parents, Lee and Stella Granger; those who raised him after his mother's death, Walter and Bonnie Poths; sister, Eleanor Willey; and his mother and father-in-law, Lucile and Fred Cummins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent or dropped off at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic or sent to his home at 3 Fair Ridge Circle, Atlantic, IA, 50022. Memorials will be designated by the family at a later date.
Dick requested cremation take place and no services held. His ashes will be buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci, Michigan. Hockenberry Family Care will make available a guest book and memorial folders for those who would like to let the family know they are thinking of them. A gathering of his family will be held at a later date.
