On 14 Mar 2018, Richard S. "Dick" Hackman, went to be with his Lord. He did not doubt that death was simply a doorway to new life. Dick was born on 22 Oct 1933 in Hershey, PA, the only son of the late Earl and Beulah Schaffner Hackman. He was raised in Hanoverdale, attended Oak Hall School and...

Not sure what to say?

Yes, here I am again! Just have to say how I think of you every month as I get ready for Lodge meeting. I put on one of your rings, your watch, and my tux with your studs in my shirt! I can hear you say to me "Why the hell did you take the Secretary station? You should have talked to me first! I always thought you were crazy!" Yeah, I sure miss your wisdom, your thoughtfulness, and our phone conversations. May you CONTINUE to rest in peace and please give Jackie a hug! FOREVER your...

I can't believe that it is a year ago that I got the call from Sharon about your passing.
I still think of you every month when I am getting ready for
Lodge meetings. Dick, I have 2 regrets...1, that I was unable to attend your services, and 2, that we were unable to spend more time together to talk about our time in the Fraternal Brotherhood. Although I did enjoy our phone conversations, it would have been great to be with you to do so. I miss you, my friend! You will be FOREVER...

I just found out about Dick's passing. I am saddened. We worked together at PennDOT in the mid 1970s and I was the driver in his carpool. Even though that was over 40 years ago, I always cherished the memories of this man. We had fun and unforgettable times. I always picture Dick as laughing because we always did when we were together with our other friends at PennDOT. The last time I saw him was many years ago when he was a tram driver at Hershey Park after his retirement from PennDOT....

I had the privilege of being coached by Hackman back in '93-'94...He was always smiling (despite my antics), always kind...He fixed my glove more than once with a shoestring :) Hackman believed in us and made us better, while letting us enjoy the game.
What a beautiful obituary--sounds like his family was blessed to have him! What a wonderful, full life!

I was so sad to hear that "Hackman", my very favorite softball coach had passed away. I was just thinking of you the day before I heard the news. After 25+ years, I still have such fond memories of practicing at the little EH Phillips field - I looked forward to seeing you every day after school. I read your obituary and I had NO idea just how full your life was and how you were involved in so many things. I feel sad that I didn't take the time to learn more about you - I guess I was too...

Farewell my coach, my teammate, my friend, my Brother!
Dick was my baseball coach for many years. From little league through teeners. Then became a teammate in softball for many successful years. Through all of this he had always been a friend. Then 8 years ago, I found out he was a Brother Mason, and that just rekindled our friendship. We had many phone conversations about Freemasonry, as well as family. He loved all of you, and was so worried about Jackie. He always was kind to my...

Mr. Hackman, a childhood favorite coach of mine. He gave so much of his time for the sport and for all of us children. We cherish him and his memory. We thank his family for sharing him with us. He is a treasure, we learned not only softball from him that contains so many wonderful attributes in it like sportsmanship, teamwork, passion, hard work and perseverance; he also taught us how to be proud yet humble, competitive yet fair and successful whether we win or lose. I get to pass that...

Jackie,Sharon,Lynn and Rick. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Dick was a great man and a Mentor to us all. For many years he was Dads best friend and confident. Many years spent at dog shows and field trials and hunting when time permitted. All good times for all of us. I will forever cherish the memories we all shared together. May God Bless each and everyone. Semper Fi and Godspeed to a great individual. Thank you for the memories, MR. Hackman.

I am grateful to Dick for getting me out of the drafting room many yeas ago and getting me to the traffic unit, for being a friend, a mentor and for overall putting up with me. Earth's loss is heavens gain. I pray that God's grace and comfort will be with the family during this time of loss. God's blessings.
