Eisenhour Funeral Home - Blanchard Obituary

Richard Dale Hammitt, 80, of Blanchard, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma after an extended illness. The son of J.T. and Erma (Herron) Hammitt, he was born July 17, 1932 in Oklahoma City.

Richard served in the U.S. Army and was employed by the Federal Government for much of his life and retired as a training instructor at the Postal Training Center in 2000. He married Reata Von Payne on May 12, 1957 in Clinton, Oklahoma and was able to enjoy 55 years together until his death.

Richard is preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Lynn; his parents, J.T. and Erma; and his brothers, Harold, Leslie and Johnny.

Richard is survived by his wife, Reata Hammitt of Blanchard; daughter, Pam Mangum and husband Jim of Blanchard; son, Mike of Ardmore; brother, Wayne of Midwest City; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many other loved ones and friends.

Private interment was held at the IOOF Cemetery in Norman. All friends and family are invited to a come and go celebration of Richard's life at Newcastle Christian Church, 2200 N. Main in Newcastle, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Katie Moody Heart of Lifecare Foundation, 2611 Springer Drive, Norman, Oklahoma, 73069. Arrangements were under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Reata, I just learned this morning from Buddie Collier that Richard had passed away. I am so sorry to hear it. I would have loved to have been at his funeral. mike we r so sorry for your loss. i know what u r going through. i wen't through similar sitiuation with my dad. it will be hard, but it takes time. we have to keep them in our hearts and know that he is in a better place than we r. love u james and sherry moffet.
