Richard Paul Harris, III Richard Paul Harris, III "Rick" of Rapidan, Virginia, moved from Earth to Heaven on February 17, 2010. He leaves his wife, Jennifer; a son, Dillon and three daughters, Nolie, Elizabeth and Veronica. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Martha Harris and one brother, Todd Harris, all of Orange County; two sisters, Ellen Lindner of Melbourne, Florida and Sharon Proctor of Lake St. Louis, Missouri. The extended family includes many nieces and nephews, along with the sisters of his wife and her mother, Elizabeth Harper of Madison County.
Rick leaves many friends to mourn his loss. He was a deacon in Abundant Life Christian Fellowship, where he worshipped and served for many years. The impact of his life on those around him was profound. He responded to the needs of others in many ways. One example was taking his chain saw to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina to clear away felled trees. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and 4-H.
He was a 1984 graduate of Virginia Tech. Following graduation, he was the manager of the Oak Green Farm dairy herd for several years. For many years, he worked as a farrier, returning full time to his love of farming in 2006.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, from 3:30 to 5 p.m and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Rhoadesville Baptist Church, Rhoadesville, with the Reverend Duane Pugh and the Reverend Nancy Stanton McDaniel officiating. A reception will follow at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rick Harris Gift Fund, Stellar One Bank, 134 West Main Street, Orange, Virginia 22960.
