It is with great sadness that the family of Richard V. Hawk, born on January 4, 1924 in Reading, PA has passed away peacefully on February 23, 2021 at the age of 97 at the Cripple Creek Care Center in Colorado. As a lifelong resident of Mechanicsburg, PA Dick relocated in the winter of 2017 to be...

Not sure what to say?

I was so very sorry to hear about your dad's passing. He was truly a gentle man and always very upbeat. I too have fond memories of him trying so hard to make me like playing that darn clarinet! He was truly one of the best teachers I ever had. How wonderful that he did move West to be closer to you daughters, who we all knew are his pride and joy! You've been blessed to have such great parents. May God bless you with only the sweetest memories of both your parents.

We are sorry to hear of Mr Hawk's passing. He was a member of our church but I've known him since 1972-73. He was my music teacher at Simpson Street school in Mechanicsburg. I started as a trumpet player, but he needed french horn players, so I became a french horn player. He is missed and we have many great memories.
We're thinking of the family at these difficult times. Always remember the good times!

I met Mr Hawk later in his life as a member of St Johns Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown, PA. He was from that great generation of WW2 veterans and I was priveleged to have made his acquaintence. I am glad he had the opportunity to be physically closer to family during his last years on earth. I pray that God sustains you in your mourning.

Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to all Dick and Vanda’s family. I’m flooded with such good memories of them both! Dick was the most respectful mentor and colleague to this once very young choral teacher at Simpson Street School. I will never forget our combined concerts for as long as I live as well as the day to day interactions!
I praise God for His gift and promise of eternal life with Him!

Wonderful friend both professionally and family/mentor. I will miss his presence.

Mr. Hawk was a great music teacher and encourager. I have great memories of Junior High Band practice in the basement of Simpson St School. And lessons with his daughter Sue as we played the clarinet together. I celebrate his life with you and mourn the loss with you.
Love and Prayers to the family. Sue Steckbeck-Day

My condolences to the Richard Hawk family. I sat beside he and Vanda in church at St. Johns and we had many talks about his days at Mechanicsburg School District. Both of my sons got their early trumpet playing lessons from Richard and have fond memories of him. Richard and Vanda were a wonderful couple and I so enjoyed having known them. Blessings to his family.

I knew Mr. Hawk for several years and he was truly courageous and kind. He had a great sense of humor. It was always a pleasure seeing him. He will be missed.

Always liked Mr. Hawk even though the french horn wouldn't have been my choice. Enjoyed our conversations at the fire company dinners in Mburg.
