Richard D. Haynes

For the last 11 years of his life, Dick was a member of Church of the Incarnation. Although in steadily declining health all those years, I never noted a Sunday when his caregiver did not bring him to the 11:15 service. Always arriving very early, he sat in his wheelchair, fastidiously dressed and groomed, and waited patiently--and I dare say prayerfully--for the service to begin. I did not know Richard Haynes at the height of his legal career. Our paths crossed as he was making the transition into retirement. Nonetheless, I met him at the height of his impact and value as a man. He was kind, gracious, encouraging, generous, humble, brilliant, wise and always optimistic. He is one of the finest men that I have known in my life.

Mr. Haynes always had a smile on his face and a kind word, and was an inspiration to all who worked for him. He was truly a great man who will be dearly missed. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his family.

Mr. Haynes touched so many lives, and I wonder how my own life would be different if it weren't for him. He treated us more like daughters than staff, and it was always so nice to get his birthday calls. He had such a great purpose to his life, and we are all blessed to have known him.

I have already missed the conversations between my late husband,Jack Sickel. over geneology and our continuted conversations about the National Episcopal movement.They established a very strong respect for each another. I could hear the pride as he would tell me about his beloved brother, John, and his latest travels. He would ask about the family and never missed a name. Mr. Haynes always had a smile and kind word for everyone. I will always remember his birthday calls. He never missed one until his health kept him from the office. You are all in my prayers.

Mr. Haynes is the kindest man I have ever met and I loved it when he called my to wish me a "Happy Birthday". He did that with his entire staff for years. God Bless the him and the family.
