Not sure what to say?

As a high school athlete growing up in Alexandria during the mid-50's, Dick and Eddie Crane were two of our favorite sportswriters in the Alexandria Gazette and later the Washington Star as they were the two writers who provided publicity and reporting of our games. I also recall one of his last columns in which he described the top 10 local sports contests that he covered during his long, distinquished career. One was a game in which I participated as G.W. High School lost its Thanksgiving...

As a coworker of Kathy's, I was sorry to hear of your loss. You have my prayers.

Mr. Heller and my mom (Mary Lou Forbes) worked together for many years - he was one of those writers from the great "family" that were the reporters from the Washington Star. He was one of my mom's favorite sports writers and more recently my wife and I have always enjoyed his local take on sports.

Dick was a talented and kind man. He will be missed by all. My love to his family and friends.

A great, sweet and funny man. Dick, I'm so glad I got to see you a few weeks ago. God speed ... Getz and Joe D

At the Star, I would type in the agate from the Maryland football games that Dick had covered. He was a talented writer and kept the newsroom loose with his bone-dry sense of humor.

I am sorry for your loss. Your neighbor Donna Bartash and Mike Meccia

I met Mr. Heller at a gathering of Senators fans last year. He was the kindest man and told the best baseball stories. Everyone who knows him is deeply saddened by his loss. My sincerest sympathies to his family and Washington Nationals and Senators Fans Everywhere.

Sports fans at Greenspring Village in Springfield were fortunate to have Dick participate in Sports Talk for residents as a panelist. Joan and I also enjoyed his "Sports Blog" and our prayers are with Dick's family and friends. Ronald Willard
