Richard Henkes II

I was classmates with Rich at Clackamas, he went into the army, I went into the Marines. The last time I saw him was at Clackamas Town Center when happenstance brought us together. I talked about my experience from Desert Storm and he told me he was going back into the army on active duty. We parted ways and years later I was reading the paper and was devastated to learn that he had been killed in Iraq. Rich gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and I will never forget. Till...

SFC Henkes was my squad leader at JBLM in 2004. We were in scouts platoon sniper section and he was like a father figure to all of us. I remember he was very helpful, always knowledgeable and spoke highly of his family especially his daughter. Thank you for all you have done SFC Henkes. I miss you and thank you for being there for me.

Thanks for being my squad leader and teaching me everything you did. I'll always miss hanging out with the old squad. You were a lot like a father to me and others, thanks for that. A leader and an American hero. Never forgotten, Cheers SGT.
