Not sure what to say?

Dick found me my first job with Beaverton School District in 1976. I had the honor to work with him for years. Dick was an outstanding administrator and a rare human being -- warm, kind, bright, and nurturing. My thoughts are with you and your family, Mary.

Mr. Hermans was a wonderful teacher, who cared about his students. When I could not make it to the only trig class available. he let me come late and get my assignments to do after school. I did tests the same way. I have admired his dedication to his students and appreciated his concern.

My condolences to you.
Marjorie Hockensmith Hoagland, (1956)

I just learned about, and am so sorry to hear about "Mr, Hermens" passing. I say "Mr. Hermens" because I knew him during my four years at Pendleton Senior High School (1956 -59) and he was always "Mr. Hermens". He was one of the finnest teachers I knew and will always appreciate the knowledge he gave me and the enthusiasm with which he gave it. David Douglas Coghenower, PSHS Calss of 1959

Mr. Hermans was probably my favorite teacher in high school. Coincidentally, he died the same day as my brother Tom. I remember well the day that Tom threw a water balloon off the roof of old Pendleton High School and watched as it hit Mr. Hermans on the head, bounced off, and landed harmlessly on the sidewalk, where it blew apart. Perhaps in Heaven there will be some accounting.

I am thankful that Mr. Hermens was one of my favorite teachers at Pendleton High School from 1955-58, and my mentor at Sunset High School in 1963.

I am very sorry to read of Richards death. Our prayers are with your family.

I will miss you. Rest in peace. Susan Morgan,Reno,NV

I was sorry to read about "Mr. Hermens" passing this morning. Over the years, his name would always come up in a very positive way as my classmates would discuss "favorite" teachers. Happy trails, "Mr. Hermens". Best wishes to the family. Wesley Grilley, PHS Class of 1951
