Richard Himes Obituary
Retired Master Sgt. Richard H. Himes Jr., 76, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2025.
Born in Oneonta, New York, on Dec. 14, 1948, to the late Richard and Bertha Himes, Richard lived a life of service and faith.
He proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Army and remained active as a lifetime member of the DAV. Richard was a dedicated member of College Heights Global Methodist Church, where he enjoyed being part of the dartball team and the Elizabethtown Emmaus Community.
Richard, known affectionately as "Dick," was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Lois Relken, whom he married in Port Huron, Michigan, on Aug. 29, 1970. Outside of his service and church life, he found great joy in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing with his best friend, Bobby Smith. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Gary Himes.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lois; his two daughters, Amy (Richard) Burgan and Tammy (Steve) Gardner; his three precious grandchildren, Alli, Liz and Scott Burgan. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Judy (Fred) Knapp and Edith Browning; his three brothers, Wayne, Doug and Terry Himes; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at noon Tuesday, Dec. 16, at College Heights Baptist Church. Burial follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and continues from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the College Heights ECTC Luncheon Ministry.
