HOCKSTAD, RICHARD CHARLES “DICK” – Of Grand Blanc, age 86, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the husband of Marilee, of 64 years, at The Oaks at Woodfield.


Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. Max B. Hayden officiating.


Cremation has taken place.


Visitation 11 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.


Dick was born in Detroit on April 21, 1937, and had spent the majority of his life in the Flint/Grand Blanc area.  On August 8, 1959 he married Marilee Podlesak in Flint.


He attended Culver Military Academy where he rowed crew (8-man shells) and wrestled. He spent a year at Palm Beach High and then returned to Flint Central High School, where he was a state-record holder in Freestyle swimming and enjoyed intramural football. Mr. Hockstad was a member of the Attic Players and Thespians. He graduated from Albion College with a Business and Psychology dual major, and a member of ATO Fraternity.  He continued his further education towards a Masters in Engineering Science. He worked for General Motors in Flint, with transfers/promotions between Buick, AC, Chevrolet and Service Parts for over a 32 year period. Mr. Hockstad was active in Community affairs, including President of Group Living Facilities from construction through occupancy (for which he was awarded a high GM commendation). He served on the Habitat for Humanity Board and was active at First Congregational UCC; and was active on various functions such as Flint Central class reunion committees, coaching youth T-ball and many more. Both Richard and Marilee loved to travel and visited 171 countries.


Surviving are his wife, Marilee;


son, Richard C. II and wife Teri of Lake Orion;
daughter, Patricia "Trish" Wombwell and partner, Edward Kolc of Grand Blanc;


two grandchildren, Justin and his wife Tanya Wombwell and their sons, Vicktor and Nikolai, Alyssa Wombwell in Arizona;


sister-in-law, Cathy of the Phoenix area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond.

Marilee, you don't know me but I knew Dick from 9th grade when we danced at the Y.M.C.A.
As kids. I thought he was so nice, and cute. Dick went away to school and we wrote maybe one letter we were always friends. My name was Judy Merriman. My husband Thomas just died October 18th at home with hospice he was 85 he didn't know Dick as he was a
St. Michael's guy. We met in college. So sorry for your loss
I'm sure you Like me will endure and adjust. Prayers for you and your family...
