Richard "Dick" Hood passed away January 25, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Englewood, NJ on March 28, 1932. He is survived by his wife Suzanne; daughters, Beverly Harper of Spring, TX and Laura Watchman of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Caleb and Macie Harper and Sarah and Sam Watchman; sister, Betty Hood of Needham, MA and brother, Jackie Hood. Preceding him in death were his parents, Philip and Caroline Hood, and granddaughter, Reagan Harper. Dick graduated from the Peddie School in Hightstown, NM, Duke University (MS) in 1954, Syracuse University (MS) in 1962, Stanford University (Ph.D.) in 1966. He taught at Colorado State University and the University of New Mexico. He retired in 1993 after serving as Chairman of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences for seven years. He was especially fond of working with the students. After retiring, he started a hearing aid business at home. Dick was an avid golfer: Trenton State Amature Champ, NM State Amateur Champion in 1970 and numerous tournament wins. He was a member of the Albuquerque Country Club where he played golf and enjoyed playing gin rummy. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at French- University Chapel on Sunday, January 29, and a reception will follow at the Albuquerque Country Club. Interment will be 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 30 at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the UNM Foundation – Richard B. Hood Scholarship.
