Not sure what to say?

The family of Richard Hutchens is so grateful to all of you who left remembrances here. Your condolences and stories about Dad have provided us much happiness and a huge dose of comfort these last few days, and we just wanted to express our appreciation.

Besides expressing my condolences to the family of Richard Hutchens, I would like to say "thank you" to them for taking the time to write such a beautiful obituary for one of my favorite teachers. I almost majored in chemistry at OSU because he made his class so interesting, but eventually I figured out that I just enjoyed his class and wasn't really a scientist. Julie Miller class of '67.

CHS '71. What a great teacher! Rest in Peace sir.

Student at Clackamas, class of 67. Mr Hutchins was so full of energy. He made learning fun. It really paid off when I took Chemistry in college. He would often get excited and have to interrupt someone and he would always call out "back-off"!
Great memories ! So happy he is with Jesus!

I am grateful to have been a student in Mr. Hutchens’ chemistry class. He exemplified an excellent teacher, exacting and engaging. May your memories comfort you. I am privileged to hold the finest recollections.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you might check out the CHS Alumni page to read the comments from the post about Mr. Hutchens.

Dear Family,
I was sorry to hear of your sad news. As a member of the CHS class of '71 I fondly remember my Chemistry class. Mr. Hutchens must have been a great teacher, as when I got to college I barely study and got a "B" on my final Chemistry exam! I got to work closely with him my senior year as I was the Science Department aide. I remember he was always in a good mood, patient with me and was passionate about teaching.
We will keep you in thought during this difficult time....

What a great teacher! Strict but fair. Opened my eyes to Chemistry and Physics . RIP you will be missed.

What a wonderful teacher he was. I was in his chemistry class in the early 70s. I still have a love of the periodic table.
